The Rotary Club's Youth Speaks District Final took place at Milnthorpe, Cumbria on Saturday and in line with Rotary's on going aim of challenging young people and in doing so giving them opportunities to boost their self esteem, confidence and communication skills ,it certainly did just that!
Five Intermediate teams from schools in the area and ten Senior teams took part in District 1190's Final and, once again, the standard of preparation and delivery was exceedingly high.
Sounds Right Managing Director and Voice Trainer or Marina Jones and Consultant Wendy Sutcliffe were Judges and though their task was a difficult one, met their challenge with considerable professional expertise and charm. Experienced and popular adjudicators, Wendy and Marina gave the contestants encouraging and meaningful feedback and their comments and guidance were wholeheartedly appreciated by participants, supporters and organizers alike.

All teams presented with skill, flair and sincerity. Schools taking part for the first time displayed considerable promise and gave polished individual and team performances. They were supported by their staff and parents and the day was certainly a positive event for young people, Rotary and the merits of Public Speaking.
The heat was organized with splendid efficiency by District 1190 Chairman Richard Lea - and was attended by the District Governor of RC Keswick, Albert Johnson who presented certificates. Dallam School, Heversham, kindly hosted the event.
Two winning teams and two runners up teams now go forward to the Regional Final at Northwich Cheshire in March. The National Final is to be held on May 1st at Cranleigh in Surrey
