Voice training and voice health for teachers
Our voice training course for teachers helps you to improve your vocal technique and eliminate voice fatigue.
We understand the working voice and we can help you to protect yours
Staff in Schools and Colleges know only too well that to be continually effective, they need to maintain voices that stand up to the rigorous demands of teaching. Our research has found that many teachers have little or no specialist voice training to enable them to cope with the vocal demands of the job and that can result in under performance or demoralising sick-leave. Teaching in classrooms, assembly halls, gyms and out of doors, can present difficulties for the most experienced teacher with an untrained voice. Constantly competing with background noise and the demands of the curriculum can place a heavy vocal demand on many NQT’s in their first year and can often result in voice loss. It is easy to take the voice for granted until there is a problem and that, for the practising teacher, is a very serious concern.
As part of our specialist training Sounds Right offers Voice Care and Awareness specifically for teachers. Many individuals and institutions have already taken advantage of our skills and experience and have been delighted with both the delivery and the results. Using the skill, knowledge and experience of Voice Teachers and Speech and Language Therapists we can help teachers to:
- Understand the working mechanism of the voice
- Learn how to keep the voice fit and healthy
- Avoid fatigue and potential problems
- Develop a more flexible working voice for a variety of tasks and situations
- Speak effectively and maintain interest, control and attention without shouting or misuse of voice
- Establish good vocal habits.
Our training is delivered by specialist voice teachers who have had practical experience of the classroom and know the realistic demands on teachers' voices. Support materials, exercises and tips for a healthy voice are provided in a support pack.
This training is available in the workplace or at one of carefully chosen conference venues. Training is flexible to fit around the busy teaching schedule - our introductory workshop, for example, can be delivered in two hours – the benefits last far longer!
What other teachers say about our Voice training for teachers course.
“I felt voice strain at the end of every day and was really sceptical about the benefits I could expect from any one training day – how wrong I was! The improvement in my voice technique and its results has amazed me. I would commend this Voice course to any teacher”

"I constantly used to feel voice strain and had to shout to make myself heard. The practical tips for my daily voice use in school were great. I am conscious of caring for my voice now, warming up and certainly not shouting. It would be good to have this sort of training in school on a regular basis."
