SoapBox 2011/2012 Public Speaking Competition for Schools and Youth Groups

SoapBox Public Speaking Competition for Schools and Youth groups was successfully launched in the summer and is now open for entries from Schools, Colleges and Youth Groups for the 2012 Heat.

Schools and Colleges familiar with Debating, Spoken English Competitions and Public Speaking will be only too aware of the advantages to their students of taking part in such events.  Students grow in confidence as they listen to arguments, form their own opinions and express themselves clearly and confidently.

SoapBox not only wishes to attract students who are experienced in Public Speaking but actively wants to encourage entries from Schools who have never taken part in such competitions before.  In the summer at least two Schools who had never taken part in such an event before entered the competition and did very well indeed and the confidence and personal esteem achieved by students was invaluable.  Their parents and teachers were rather pleased too!

A unique feature of SoapBox is that training is available for students and staff new to Public Speaking. Everyone understands the importance of Oral Skills but so often because of lack of time, pressures on the curriculum and large class sizes it is not always given the attention it deserves. Sounds Right understands that Schools are very busy environments and staff are constantly under pressure. For this reason  short training courses are available (½ days or full days) where specialist tutors  will work with staff and teams to transmit relevant skills and help with preparation and performance. For Schools with competition experience training is also available to help polish their vocal presentation skills - projection, articulation and so on.  Not only will this training equip students well for the competition but will enhance their spoken English skills and in this present climate that is crucial.

" It is so very important that children and young people have increased opportunities to learn to speak well and effectively. Public Speaking Competitions encourage confidence and self esteem in terms of listening carefully, forming a balanced point of view, presenting and communicating with others "
